Featured Travel Study:    Costa Rica: Field Study

  Travel Study Programs

Students will have the opportunity to experience Caribbean coastal lowland forest and wetlands, cloud forest, and the Pacific coast forest.  Students will learn about the different plants and animals inhabiting these forests, biotic and abiotic interactions, life histories, ecological adaptations, and biogeography.

The stay at Estacion Las Tortugas Field Station will provide students the opportunity to conduct pre-planned research projects working in teams over the course of two days.  Here, students will also participate in nightly patrols to help resident staff gather and protect the eggs of threatened leatherback sea turtles from poachers and collect data on nesting turtles.  During the stay at Punta Leona on the Pacific Coast, students will count Scarlet Macaws at sunrise as the birds leave their roost and fly to feeding areas; this will aid conservation efforts for this threatened species.
