Ecuador: Field Experience and Sustainable Development and Health

College of Liberal Arts and Sciences

Global social and economic change requires that rural communities seek and develop viable livelihoods.  The degree to which these responses are sustainable, promoting positive social and economic change, is the focus of this course.  Deforestation through timber harvest, colonization and expanding agriculture threaten traditional Ecuadorian Amazonian communities.  This 4 week field-based course guides students as they engage directly with issues of sustainability in the rainforest community of Mondaña, Ecuador.
